Keyneton wind farm concerns heard

01 Nov, 2011 03:44 PM
Both passionate and assertive pleas for support to stop the proposed wind farm at Keyneton have been made clear to state parliament member David Ridgeway.

On Monday the Leader of the opposition in the Legislative Council and member of the state’s Liberal Party accepted an invite by members of the Eastern Mount Lofty Ranges Landscape Guardians to Keyneton Hall who are desperate to stop the proposed development of 57 wind turbines.

Mr Ridgeway, who agreed the proposed site (Sedan Ranges), “is not appropriate”, said a consistent set up of guidelines is needed.

“We need to have a definitive policy,” he said.

His chat with about 25 residents included working on guidelines to be used in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia, where wind activity is high. He said the would help in their decision making for wind farms.

As part of the gathering, Mid Murray councillor David Peake addressed the group by saying residents need to take action now before its too late.

It is understood the wind farm development proposed by Victorian based company Pacific Hydro will not lodge their application until the new wind power reforms, announced by the state government, come into effect.

The reforms seek to provide greater responsibility over wind farms to councils and with a dramatic reduction in public consultation.

Originally Pacifi Hydro said they would lodge their application in September.

In addition, Mr Ridgeway told residents he would consider organising a deputation with Minister Development John Rau for residents concerns to further voice their concerns.
