A further report has been ordered into the mental health of alleged cancer patient Shirley (Kennedy) Gill.
Ms Gill, aged 43, who was present at yesterday’s (Tuesday) hearing at Tanunda Magistrate’s court, faces charges of theft by deception and attempted theft by deception.
She was arrested in Kapunda on June 10, 2009.
This will be the third psychiatric report involving Ms Gill after two separate medical reports were completed on January 29 and July 15 this year.
According to Magistrate Harrap, “I cannot say and I?cannot make a decision today,” as the first two reports differ in opinion as to whether Ms Gill suffers from a medical impairment.
“I’m not comfortable doing this on the run,” Magistrate Harrap explained.
“There’s a question of it (the reports) satisfying the criteria of section 269” (medical impairment).
He told the court “this is a serious allegation and the consequences are fairly significant”.
In May 2009 Ms Gill had requested $10,000 through donations to add to $7000 she claimed she was to receive in relation to her alleged breast cancer treatment.
The community rallied behind her and donation tins were placed at various businesses.
Ms Gill is due to return to Tanunda Magistrate’s Court in October.
