Tanunda artist Darren McCrae will perform his new song “Grand Final” at the 2008 SANFL grand final on Sunday, October 5.
“It’s our biggest day of the year and to have a local artist with a song about our great game performing it on the day is fantastic,” SANFL general manager of Partners and Strategy, Rob Nelson said.
“The tune strikes a cord with football followers and is catchy.
“The SANFL aim to give the spectators a great football experience on grand final day and having Darren sing this song will add to that.”
Born in Broken Hill, McCrae has an association with football which goes back to his childhood days.
He played reserves football at West Adelaide, as well as having stints in the amateur league and the now defunct SAFA.
He has also worked as a scout for Chris McDermott and Rod Campbell at North Adelaide and followed the latter across to Woodville-West Torrens.
Also a painter, McCrae has indulged his passion for sport through art being commissioned to paint for test cricketer, Peter Sleep. He has also completed works on footballers Tony Modra, Nathan Buckley, and Peter Daicos as well as gold medal athlete Cathy Freeman.
His recent foray into the singing and song-writing field has been inspired by his mother, Claire McCrae, who was a classical singer, and who was awarded an Order of Australia medal.
McCrae said he had received tremendous support from Simon Marschall at the Barossa Music Store, who produced “Grand Final” with him.
