Gawler's Jack Bobridge wins first pro tour stage

24 Aug, 2010 02:23 PM
Champion cyclist Jack Bobridge has landed his first win as a professional by winning stage five of the Eneco Tour in the Netherlands.

Bobridge, 21, from Evanston Park, attacked his breakaway group with 2km to go and held them off, along with the entire peloton, to take a major ProTour win.

“I was pretty keen to make the break and I know that once I am in a break with that many riders and it comes close to the finish normally I can go pretty well,” Jack said. “I come off the track and I can time trial and pursuit, so 2km is perfect for me. I’m so happy to have landed the win.”

There is no rest for Jack as he he shortly will be leaving his Garmin Transitions pro team to go to a 10-day Australian camp in Switzerland.

He is part of the track team for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi from October 3 to 14.
