Hungry Jack’s is keen to join Gawler’s other fast food chains, McDonalds and KFC.

Both those sites are located on Adelaide Road.

According to a Hungry Jacks spokesperson, the company has been looking for a 2000sqm site located within the commercial zone of the town.

“Our interest in Gawler was casual until the recent release of a report that detailed the probable future of Gawler,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also said they were contacted last year by the Vallelonga group to lease land next door to Café Nova, off Murray Street.

However, Jim Vallelonga, owner of Café Nova owner says this is incorrect.

“They visited us last year at Café Nova with their plans,” he explained.

“In a nutshell, the Café Nova site will push to develop a motel and other restaurants, one of which might be Hungry Jack’s.

Mr Vallelonga said he was to meet with representatives from the company yesterday (Tuesday).

“But speculation on what is going to happen is premature.”

Originally, Hungry Jack’s plans were to demolish Café Nova, place a Hungry Jack’s restaurant on the site and rebuild a modern Italian restaurant to the south of the land.

A proposed development on the land was tabled with the Town of Gawler.

Hungry Jack’s were to be a separate section of that scheme.

The negotiations for this contract failed and during April the food chain’s planning consultant advised the council they were no longer part of the proposed redevelopment.
