A Barossa winery has defied an industry downturn and announced a new USA distribution partner.
Château Tanunda has entered the US market for the first time by teaming up with Banfi Vintners.
Celebrating a 120-year anniversary in 2010, Château Tanunda is currently enjoying a new lease of life under the direction of the Geber family.
Since John Geber purchased the Chateau in 1998 renovations and rebuilding has taken place and a new boutique winery has been established to process small batches of premium Barossa fruit.
Banfi Vintners will distribute the Grand Barossa range along with the exclusive individual vineyard wines.
In late 2009 the Château increased its vineyard holdings in the Barossa to 250 acres - to further enhance a commitment to the region and take complete control of its premium quality fruit.
Château Tanunda has successfully promoted the Barossa’s key attributes with premium, single-vineyard wines and key Barossa-sourced brands.
“At a time when the Australian Wine Industry is in turmoil we have been ‘contrarian’ purchasing vineyards and opening up the USA,” John Geber said.
True to his cricket-loving nature, Mr Geber is hoping to bat on.
“Celebrating 120 not out gives me a lot of confidence to go for the double century with a very positive attitude.”
