A raid on eight regional properties on Thursday resulted in Barossa police seizing a large quantity of cannabis and hydroponic equipment.
Police uncovered 30 cannabis plants, 115g of dried cannabis, a 1.7kg block of hashish, 55 lights, 68 transformers and other hydroponic equipment from domestic properties at Roseworthy, Wasleys, Gawler East, Gawler South, Evanston South, Hillier and Kalbeeba.
In addition, seven people were reported for various offences such as producing and possessing cannabis, possession of prescribed hydroponic equipment.
The raids were part of Operation Yield, an on-going Barossa Police initiative, created to target domestic cannabis production.
Officer in Charge of the Barossa Criminal Investigation section, Detective Sergeant Simon Carpenter explained this is the third operation that has been held.
“Again it has proven to be successful with a large quantity of cannabis are hydroponic equipment being seized,” he said.
The majority of information has been received via Crimestoppers, either over the telephone or through the website.
“By seizing hydroponic equipment coupled with recent legislation making it illegal for shops to sell most types of hydroponic equipment, we hope that we are making some headway into slowing down cannabis production in the area.
However, he said the biggest concerns for police are for the growers, who take serious risks from events such as house fires due to back yard wiring, electrocution.
