There’s a world of information at your library.
During March the Barossa Council Public Libraries have a variety of programs and activities on offer.
St Patrick’s Day will be celebrated with Irish-themed displays and materials from Irish authors. There will be a ‘luck of the Irish’ competition and at the Nuriootpa library there will be some limerick fun with the poetry group.
On Tuesday, March 23, there will be a belly-dancing workshop at Nuriootpa from 7pm. Workshop spots cost $10 and must be pre-booked.
On Sunday, March 28, the library will really come to life.
The first ‘living library’ will introduce people to others they might not normally meet.
It’s a library with a twist - the books are actually people who have special stories to share.
The ‘living library’ offers a reader the opportunity to understand more about the lives of others in their community.
The ‘living books’ include; a parent of a child with autism, a Buddhist, a ‘grey nomad’, a man who has journeyed through a mental health issue, a woman who has volunteered with the people of Nepal, a mother who has cared for more than 300 foster children, a person who has chosen to live sustainably, a poet, farmer and men’s health advocate and a Muslim person.
You can share time with these people from 1-3.30pm on March 28.
‘Readers’ can book 20-minute - one-on-one - informal conversations with the ‘living books’ to listen to stories and ask questions.
Bookings are essential, please phone 8563 8440 for more information.
