Three years on and the former Angaston Council chambers and administration block has sold.
According to Peter Fairweather, from Barossa Real Estate in Tanunda, a Barossa family has purchased the property.
In addition to this property, the former Tanunda Primary School building has also been sold by the council, after it went on the market last month.
This property has also been bought by a local purchaser.
While the sale price of both buildings remains commercial in confidence, according to the council - the properties form part of $4.5million in asset sales to help fund the Aquatic and Fitness Barossa, currently under construction at Tanunda.
However, a former Barossa resident and property developer, who in May put a contract on the Angaston council chambers told the Herald an earlier contract placed on the site was priced about the mid $800,000.
Settlement of the Angaston site will be finalised in 90 days, while the Tanunda building to take more time. The building is on the council’s heritage register and is zoned for residential and/or mixed use.
This site was put on the market when plans to redevelop the property for child care fell through, due to constraints with the building.
The council’s chief executive officer David Morcom said after several false starts, the council was pleased to see both properties sold.
“From a financial perspective, council’s planned asset sales are on track and we are pleased to see a new lease of life for both these prominent town centre buildings,” Mr Morcom said.
