The Barossa Farmers’ Market has been a treasured part of this community since 2001, home to the Barossa’s best foods and freshest produce.
Tourists from all over the world help to make up the 4000 that visit the markets each week; rain, hail or shine.
Plans are underway to further improve the services at the market including renovations to the breakfast bar, introduce a demonstration cooking area, expand the market grounds and build new bathroom facilities.
In addition to these services, the market attracts the likes of celebrities like former Australian swimmer Kieran Perkins, television cook Paul Mercurio and entertainer Ian (Dicko) Dickson.
The variety of people who visit the market each week is one of the many aspects that add to the atmosphere.
David West, a stallholder for two years, explained that the remarkable environment is part of what draws people in.
“The uniqueness of the market needs to be maintained,” he said.
Barossa Farmers Market manager Maria Yfantidis, said “the stallholders are like a family”.
She explained, “every time I come to the market - it’s a great moment. I’m proud to manage it.
“It really brings together the community,” Maria added.
In recognition of this, the Barossa Farmers Market has gained commendations by the SA Great Regional Awards in the category of community in 2004 and 2007.
