 Wind farm planned for Keyneton

Wind farm planned for Keyneton

06 Jul, 2010 01:52 PM
The company investigating the possibility of establishing a wind farm at Keyneton hopes to complete its inquiries by the end of the year.

Pacific Hydro is undertaking a number of studies into the proposal, including determining the impact a wind farm would have on the landscape and visual and noise assessments.

The proposed site is located six kilometres west of Sedan.

Pacific Hydro spokesperson Emily Wood said the company hopes the project will move into the next phase by 2011.

“It’s all taking a lot longer than anticipated but we’re hoping that all the studies will be finished by the end of the year,” she said.

Ms Wood said once the studies have been completed, the company will conduct community information sessions and community consultation, before lodging development applications with the relevant authorities.

Pacific Hydro’s initial investigations have shown the Keyneton site is suitable for a wind farm comprising up to 60 generators with a total capacity of 120 megawatts.

A wind farm of this size could produce enough energy to power 65,000 homes.

People looking at turbines should do some research, the contracts are a scam and the turbines are a health hazard google waubra wind farm helth issues visit www.spacountryguardians.org.au to see contracts by Origin energy

wind turbines will wreck the tourist dollar for the Barossa, no one wants to see 100's of useless wind turbines in this region

Not welcome, toss wind turbines and go solar. Pacific Hydro's boss Lane Crockett stated at a wind farm meeting at Ballan on the edge of Melbourne that he wouldn't want his own family living near turbines!!! That sums up these wind company people!

When are people going to open there minds and see that alternative power sources are need and should be encouraged. The wind farm could produce enough zero emission energy to power the equivalent of 65,000 homes, which would eliminate around 380,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas each year. Bob - your comment made me laugh, do you even know where the proposed site is?? They are not going to be stationed in the Main street of Tanunda - they will be approx. 6 kms west out of Sedan and 10kms south of Angaston, and 100's of Turbines??? Up to 60 turbines is what has been proposed. - maybe you should try and find out some more information before you throw negative comments out there. Check out the website & read for yourself. www.pacifichydro.com.au

If this region has turbines surround it on the hills you can kiss goodbye to the tourist dollar. No one wants to stay in the middle of a forest of bird blenders

People of the Barossa, (yes, I am one of those!), if WE use electricity, why must SOMEONE ELSE have to live within sight of the generation of that power? I Would prefer to see any number of wind turbines rather than a polluting coal-burning power station. Further, it is time that turbines were sited offshore in Gulf St. Vincent, within sight of the majority of the state's power consumers. Check out Denmark, by way of example! I am perplexed by N.I.M.B.ies who think that their hobby farms, complete with tin-fence and urban-assault vehicles atop every hill in the Mt. Lofty Ranges, are environmentally and visually acceptable, yet turbines to run their air-conditioners and big-screen TVs. are not! That said, solar-thermal mated with geo-thermal power generation and Carnegie ocean-swell energy extraction should also be our focus for the near future. We DO have abundant renewable resources, but the technology to exploit such is not yet mainstream. I'm happy to write under my name - so too should the nay-sayers!

Everyone knows ie the silent majority that wind energy is a total scam. All homes should have solar as part of their energy plan

If wind companies are so open and transparent lets see these confidential contracts that leave landholders in a legal mine field. Wind companies are the same as MIS's
